FAA clarifies position on through-the-fence operations
A crackdown on through-the-fence operations at airports is aimed primarily at residential developments, according to the FAA. Randall Fiertz, the agency’s director of airport compliance and field operations, says commercial TTF agreements “could very well be appropriate,” especially in cases where airport property is at a premium. But residential airparks can pose challenges for both safety and future development, he says, so the FAA is seeking “more oversight of through-the-fence agreements as they’re being contemplated.” Airport Business (11/2009)
